Adding a new 22-acre south campus to the Toledo Clinic in Maumee, Ohio strengthens the organization’s vision to deliver the best possible patient care. NAC provided master planning for the entire health campus, as well as the design to implement the first phase of a new 70,000 sf, state-of-the-art cancer center.

Offering comprehensive cancer treatment, the new center includes 24 infusion bays, a USP 800 and oral chemo pharmacy, integrated clinical trials, radiation oncology, medical oncology, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and caregiver respite spaces that not only supports patients, but the whole community as well. The Toledo Clinic’s core belief in the healing power of nature is also evident throughout the facility. While floor-to-ceiling windows fill the interior with natural light, both public and treatment spaces are organized to take in views of a nearly one-acre landscaped and accessible village green.

The new center’s holistic approach to providing comfortable, familiar, and personalized care starts the moment patients enter the arrival gallery and are greeted by the concierge who directs them to their place of care. During infusion treatments, patients can choose the environment in which they receive care depending on how the feel on any given day. They may choose an open bay, along the window, where they feel enveloped by the village green, a private room for seclusion, the library when they want to socialize and pull up to a table with others to assemble a puzzle, or the living room to sit by the cozy fire. Providing options allows patients to regain a sense of control when they may feel a lack of control.

The large “Thrive” art installation in the lobby announces a positive message to all who enter the building. It isn’t enough to survive, we want people to thrive.
